About Olive

My name is Olive and I’m an Olde English Bulldogge. Yup, I spelled it correctly. I’m 16 weeks old and my old lady is going through the pains of puppy potty training and everything else that comes with bringing a ball of awesome into this world, so I thought I’d start a dog blog documenting our progress.

What’s an Olde English Bulldogge?

About 20 or so years ago, a guy named David Leavitt decided that he wanted an English Bulldog, but without all the health problems. More importantly, he wanted a dog with the looks of a bulldog from the 18th century (we were less short and stubby back then). So he decided to create a new breed, now known as the Olde English Bulldogge.

Us Olde English Bulldogges are made up sugar, spice, and everything nice. More specifically, we’re 1/2 English Bulldog, and the other half Bullmastiff, Pit Bull and American Bulldog. When the old ball and chain tries to explain my breed to people, they think I’m a mutt, but I’m actually a purebred.

We’re pretty sweet dogs for people that live in apartments or aren’t that active because we don’t like exercise all that much. We’re not guilty of sloth or gluttony like regular English Bulldogs but we’re cool with a walk once a day and to spend the rest of the day sleeping on the couch or watching TV.

As a nice lady Bulldogge, I’m a bit more protective of my old lady than the boys, but we’re all very loyal and overly enthusiastic about pleasing anyone who loves us. Oh and we like to chew, OH HOW WE LIKE TO CHEW. We have very strong jaws so we’ll pretty much eat anything in our path.

You can learn more about us on Wikipedia if you’re that interested. I have things to chew do you know!

Hi Olive, My name is Lou and I just bought an eight week old male pupp called Dexter. He’s awsome. he’s fawn with a black face and a cork screw tail. Love him. anyway he’s got a few issues I’m really concerned about. the day after I got him I took him to the vet and he checked out o.k. but the next day he started limping. the limp wasnt consistent nor every day. Today is the fifth day I have him and this afternoon he started crying and picking up his right leg. he wouldnt put weight on it. then sometimes he would walk on it then it came back, the pain that is. every time he wimpered i would feel his leg and he wouldnt respond to pain. Can it be growing pains? Also sometimes he wakes from a deep sleep and yelps twice then falls back asleep as fast as he got up. oh one more thing. he get hickups quite often. have any idea as to what any of this may be?

The breeder said he hasnt had any problems with any of his pups and his parents looked very healthy when i saw them in person. also the day i picked him he seemed fine with no faults in his walk and pretty energetic.

he is a ball of love. would appreciate any feedback.

    thanks, Lou

  • Hi Lou,

Oh boy, that doesn’t sound like growing pains to me, I’d bring him back to the vet.

Since he’s able to lift his right leg, and he isn’t shaking (a sign of a broken bone or something more constant) or responding to you touching his leg, there’s probably something wrong with his FOOT. Have you checked to make sure he doesn’t have something wedged in there? Or maybe someone cut his toenails too short?

As for the hiccups, I get hiccups all the time, it’s very common in puppies. If Dexter has them all day long, then I’d start to worry and maybe think about change what you’re feeding him (I recommend steak – HIGH FIVE Dexter!)

I hope Dexter feels better soon!
